Reading preferences

Reading strategy (1): Choose between the linear reading strategy and the adaptive reading strategy. The linear strategy is suited for undamaged media while the adaptive strategy is better for media already containing read errors.

Reading range (2): Reading will be limited to the given range of sectors, including the borders: 0-100 will read 101 sectors. The settings are only effective for the current session and will not be saved.

Skip x sectors after read error /
Stop reading when unreadable intervals < x (3):

The slider value affects the handling of read errors. It has slightly different effects for the linear and adaptive reading strategies. However large values reduce the processing time and the mechanical wear on the drive, but will also leave larger gaps in the image when reading defective areas.

Image properties

DAO image (1): Works around a rare Problem when creating images from "DAO" ("disc at once") CD-R media.

Split image (2): Allows the creation of large images on file systems which are limited to 2GB per file (e.g. FAT from Windows). The image is spread over upto 100 files "medium00.img", "medium01.img" etc. at the cost of a small performance hit.

Error correction files are still limited to 2GB; this will be fixed in one the next versions.

Fill unreadable sectors (3): Provides compatibility with other data recovery software. Currently known settings and programs are:

0xb0 (decimal 176) -- h2cdimage/dares (published by "c't", a German periodical)

Uncheck (disable) this field when images are exclusivley processed with dvdisaster.

Drive initialisation

Waits the given amount of seconds for the drive to spin up before the real reading process starts. This avoids speed jumps at the beginning of the reading curve.
